Connect Modula to ChatGPT
ChatGPT supports external MCP servers through Apps (formerly Connectors). Once Modula is added, ChatGPT can browse the component library and generate interactive educational content for you.
What you’ll need
- A ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu account with Developer Mode enabled
- A Modula account — sign up here
Steps
1. Enable Developer Mode
Go to chat.openai.com and sign in. Open Settings → Apps & Connectors, then click Advanced settings and toggle Developer Mode on. This is required to add custom MCP servers.
2. Create a custom app
In Settings → Apps & Connectors, click Create. Fill in the fields:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Modula |
| Description | Compose author-grade interactive content with AI. |
| URL | https://mcp.modula.dev/mcp |
Click Create to save.
3. Authorise the connection
ChatGPT will redirect you to Modula to log in and confirm the connection. Once you approve, ChatGPT will have access to the Modula component library.
4. Use Modula in a conversation
Open a new chat and click the + icon near the message composer. Select More, then choose Modula from the list and enable it for the conversation. You can now ask:
Using Modula, create a lesson on the water cycle with an intro paragraph, an image placeholder, and a 4-question quiz.
Tips
- Apps added in Developer Mode are private to your account — they are not shared with other users in your organisation automatically.
- To update or remove Modula, return to Settings → Apps & Connectors and edit or delete the entry.
- If you don’t see the Apps & Connectors section, check that your account is on a Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan.
